October in Indonesia sees a celebration of Korea. A series of events, including arts, culture and food, have been planned in various cities nationwide as part of the Korean Festival. The theme, “A Great Journey to Enjoy Korea” , features various programmes such as “K-Content” (Korean film screenings), “K-Performance” (Cultural Performances) to “K-Exhibition” (an exhibit of traditional Korean handicrafts). The Westin Jakarta plays host to the Festival’s “K-Feast” component by showcasing the country’s rich culinary heritage.
This year, the Westin Jakarta welcomes Chef Jeong Woo Heo from Sheraton Grand Incheon Hotel who, in collaboration with the hotel’s Executive Sous Chef Denny Boy Gunawan, has curated a special menu featuring a range of Korean favourites reflecting an Autumnal theme.
According to Chef Denny, Korean tradition dictates a variety of sides to complement the main course. “They can have six to ten side dishes or even more. The side dishes can be vegetables, soup, salad or fried foods, crabs or shrimp, but they must have Kimchi,” Chef Denny said.
Chef Heo and Chef Denny’s menu features six small bowls in one tray including rice, Pickled Onion and Pepper, Seasoned Spinach, Pickled Radish, Seaweed Soup with Beef and Stir-fried Rice Cake based Soy Sauce. The chefs also serve a variety of Kimchi made with Radish and Chinese Cabbage.
For the main course, Chef Heo serves Braised Mackerel seasoned with garlic, onion, Korean chili powder, Korean chili paste, mirin, corn syrup and soya sauce.
“Korean Feast” is available everyday until 14 October with prices IDR 388,000++ per person for Weekday Lunch, IDR 408,000++ per person for Weekday Dinner, and IDR 438,000++ per person for Weekend Lunch/Dinner. Prices are inclusive of soft drinks, beer, and flavored ice tea.
