We The Fest (WTF), one of the biggest music festivals in Indonesia, announces its return with its 8th offline festival this year. Together with the announcement of the festival dates, held from 21-23 July 2023, the highly-anticipated event has unveiled the first phase of its lineup of international and local artists.
Since its debut in 2014, the coveted We The Fest strives to please festival-goers with a list of artists and musicians they’d like to see grace the festival stage and this year will feature the most diverse lineup to date, reflecting the essence of the festival’s value: welcoming everyone of all ages and connoisseurs of all types of genres to experience the music and artistry in the spirit of togetherness.
They’ve just released the #WTF23 stop motion video trailer announcing the first lineup of artists, a total of 21 names that consist of 4 headliners, which includes several Grammy Award-winning and nominated artists that were part of the wish list tree from We The Fest 2022. Additionally, We The Fest will showcase various Beyond The Music activations that will carry four of We The Fest pillars: Music, Fashion, Food and Art.
First Phase Line-Up Announcements
At the forefront of the headliners is the legendary rock band, The Strokes, who will finally make their long-awaited Indonesian debut. Fronted by lead vocalist Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond, Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture and drummer Fabrizio Moretti, they are one of the most influential bands of the early 21st century. The band came back to the limelight with their passion-filled 2020 album, The New Abnormal. The critically and commercially successful album managed to reach the Top Ten hits in several countries including the US and the UK, winning the Best Rock Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
The next headliner is a Manchester band that has been frequently admitted to the wish list tree and highly requested by attendees, The 1975. This will be their second time at the festival following their first appearance at We The Fest 2016. Famed for their great hits “Chocolate”, “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” and “Somebody Else”, the band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew Healy, vocalist and guitarist Adam Hann, drummer George Daniel, and bassist Ross MacDonald. The band recently won Best Alternative/Rock Artist at the 2023 Brit Awards and release their fifth album “Being Funny in a Foreign Language” last October.
Australian singer, rapper and songwriter, The Kid Laroi, was also announced as a headliner. He achieved mainstream popularity with his 2021 collaboration with Justin Bieber on the song “Stay” which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. His 2020 debut mixtape, F*ck Love, peaked at #1 on the Australian ARIA Charts, establishing him as the youngest Australian solo artist to reach the top of the chart as well as reaching #1 on the US Billboard 200. He’s collaborated with various talented musicians including Juice WRLD, Marshmello, Polo G and Machine Gun Kelly.
The fourth headliner of the first phase lineup is Grammy-nominated Scottish singer-songwriter, Lewis Capaldi. His chart-topping 2019 single, “Someone You Loved”, reached the top UK Singles Chart for seven weeks and reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single was nominated for Song of the Year at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards and the 2020 Brit Awards, winning the latter along with the Best New Artist category.
On the second tier, the phase one lineup will see artists including Dhruv with his hit single “Double Take”, Peach Tree Rascals with “Mariposa”, Sabrina Carpenter with her collaboration with Alan Walker and Farruko with “On My Way”, and Darmot Kennedy with “Power Over Me”, will hit the WTF stage.
American superduo NxWorries, consisting of eight-time Grammy Award-winning artist Anderson .Paak (famous for his other superduo group with Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic) together with producer-songwriter Knxwledge, will also be hitting the WTF stage.
Seven-time Grammy-nominated singer, Giveon, known for his hit song “Heartbreak Anniversary” will also perform at WTF 2023. His collaboration with Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar on “Peaches” debuted on top of the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Global 2022 and Global Excl. US, as well as charts in multiple countries, receiving four nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
Set to light up the stage with electrifying performances include DJs Porter Robinson and Gryffin, along with Indonesian music legends, GIGI and Project Pop. Rounding up the first phase lineup includes beloved Indonesian artists Mikha Angelo, Kunto Aji, Rafi Sudirman, Rock n Roll Mafia, Syarikat Idola Remaja and Yura Yunita.
