AYODYA BATIK FESTIVAL
The Indonesian Batik, recognised in 2009 as a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO, is an intricate process of repeated application of wax to cloth over a multiple-dyeing process. And celebrating the rich legacy of Batik, the Ayodya Resort Bali is hosting the Ayodya Batik Festival 2017 from October 6-8 at the resort’s Grand Ballroom. The 3-day event will focus on the finest batiks produced in Solo (Central Java), Yogyakarta, and Bali. Held in conjunction with the festivals public exhibition will be two gala fashion show dinners on set for October 7 and 8.

On October 7, Joko SSP, one of Indonesia’s leading batik designers, will headline a free-of-charge afternoon-long workshop at the resort’s Bale Banjar starting at noon time. Included in the workshop will be a demonstration on how to wear a sarong by the Komunitas Cinta Berkain Indonesia (KCBI). Those joining the workshop at the Bale Banjar will also learn how to make a traditional offering (canang), how to create heat with coconut leaf, play a gamelan xylophone (megamel), and participate in Balinese dance.

BALI VEGAN FESTIVAL
From 6 to 8 October 2017, the third annual Bali Vegan Festival returns to Ubud bringing vegans – and any food conscious individuals – three days of vegan inspiration! Split over three venues, the main hub being Paradiso Ubud, with talks at Taksu Spa and activites at The Vegan Village, the festival brings a mixture of talks, workshops, cooking classes, health classes and film screenings to the area.

The festival’s main line-up includes Kip Andersen, the renowned Cowspiracy/What the Health filmmaker, FullyRaw Kristina, founder of Rawfully Organic and a social media superstar, the ever-inspirational James Aspey who undertook a one-year vow of silence to raise awareness for animals and continues to enlighten around the world and other educators, speakers and activists. MELBOURNE CUP
It’s October and that means the Melbourne Cup is around the corner. As always, it’s sure to hold a stellar line up of entertainment as Finns are sticking with their successful recipe featuring Australian home grown talents. Cup day guests are in for even more than a triple treat this year with four well known Aussie vocalists. Household names in Oz throughout the eighties, nineties and 2000s; Paul Gray (of Wa Wa Nee), Mark Gable (Choirboys), Jason Singh (Taxiride) and Reece Maston (X-Factor winner 2011) will grace the stage as ‘The Voices’ in a celebration of Australian music, ensuring an unforgettable afternoon of awesome tunes, great food, and fabulous fun. ROCK ’N RUN
The annual “Rock ’n Run” is set to take place for its 17th instalment this October on the 22nd from 6 AM to 12 PM. Over the last 16 years (since 2001) Hard Rock Hotel Bali, as the organiser of the charity run, has raised over IDR 2 billion for a range of special causes in Bali and you’re invited to take part for this year’s happenings. Open for all, the 5K run will start and finish at the Hard Rock Hotel Bali; participants will run the length of the Pantai Kuta road, along Jalan Legian and back onto Pantai Kuta. Registration is already open (closes on 19 October) and includes the iconic Rock ’n Run t-shirt, meals and a chance to win lucky draw prizes on the day. Registration price is IDR 230,000 per person.
