The Dharmawangsa Jakarta welcomes the 496th Anniversary of Jakarta in a series of vibrant celebrations that lasts for two weeks called ‘Semarak Jakarta’. Collaborating with prominent Indonesian food writer, author and dining observer, Kevindra Soemantri, this year’s event takes inspiration from his acclaimed book ‘Jakarta, a Dining History’ and carries the theme of a “City of Multicultural Gastronomy”.
From 9 to 25 June 2023, Semarak Jakarta will introduce enticing programs such as narrative dinners, thematic brunches and engaging workshops. Diverse agendas and schedules are curated to bring together gourmands, history enthusiasts and curious diners for a unique experience that truly celebrates the essence and history that highlights the culinary journey of Indonesia’s beloved capital.

Threads of Time: A Semarak Jakarta Exhibition
Step into the past at Semarak Jakarta Exhibition, as they collaborate with Bartele Gallery and the Jakarta Library and Archive Services to showcase an exceptional collection of rare antique maps, prints, photographs, books, and antiquities dedicated to Jakarta’s history.

The Dining Experiences
“Jakarta a Dining History” Narrative Dinner
17th and 24th June 2023
Inspired by the book “Jakarta a Dining History”, this degustation dinner showcases the long history of the modern dining scene of Jakarta. Throughout the dinner, Kevindra Soemantri will narrate the history and inspiration of each dish, providing guests with insight into the culinary traditions and history of Jakarta. The narration is complemented by a pop-up exhibition supported by the Jakarta Library and Archive Services, creating a fully immersive dining experience that transports guests to a different time and place.

“Heritage of Batavia” Rijsttafel Dinner

Inspired by the Rijsttafel of the illustrious Grand Hotels of Batavia, where it became an iconic symbol of hospitality and opulence, the Rijsttafel offers an assortment of savoury dishes as well as desserts served in a multi-course manner, with dishes brought one after another, creating a delightful procession of flavours.
